Cultivate awareness of purpose to enhance our decision-making
Last week, we had the wonderful opportunity to connect with the future leaders at VinUniversity on the thought-provoking topic of "purposeful strategy." This session was a moment of reflection that encouraged everyone to dive deeper and critically evaluate their strategic intentions from various angles.
Together, we explored some key questions that can shape our approaches:
What are you optimizing for? Are you focused on seizing new opportunities or managing risks?
Are you looking at the numbers or pursuing a value?
Are your metrics aligned with your long-term vision? It’s easy to get caught up in short-term wins, but true success often comes from a commitment to sustainable growth.
Different leaders and contexts require different prioritization. There is no clear choice, but there must be awareness.
Awareness of purpose can guide decisions (do you know what you are solving for?), elevate debates (are both sides aware of the differences in their optimization?), and sharpen analysis (am I only listening to the sides that confirm my bias?).
As we wrapped up the session, it was clear that developing a purposeful strategy is a continuous journey. Stay aware of our intentions and priorities to navigate the complexities of leadership more effectively.
